International Wine Report, Owen Bargreen
"The wine is sourced from the esteemed Dusi Vineyard which is located on the southern end of Paso Robles, just on the west site of Highway 101. This is a dry farmed vineyard that was planted first in 1945. Soils are rocky at the vineyard site. This starts off with aromas of prune, stewed strawberry and touch of bramble. The palate shows wonderful bright acidity with a really plush mouthfeel. Red fruits dominate with touches of smoke and milk chocolate and well as a touch of orange peel. This is a highly complex Zin that is built for aging for another decade."

The sun drenches the vineyard and its rolling hills of rocky, alluvial soil. But then the sun sets and the cool comes in. It’s this extreme temperature swing that causes the fruit to keep its vibrant acidity while developing an intense berry profile, particularly bold spice notes of black pepper and licorice.

Tasting Notes

Hold on tight – this one has a big personality with aromas of black cherry and black currant, nuanced by notes of celery seed, black pepper, and licorice. It’s concentrated, with fantastic acidity and a plush mouthfeel with just the right amount of tannic structure on the back palate. The finish is luxurious and long. It’s perfect shared over rousing conversation with friends new and old.

Wine Facts

DUSI VINEYARD IS FOUND on the west side of Paso Robles in an expansive landscape of undulating hills bathed in Californian sunshine. Originally planted by the Dusi family in 1945, to this day two generations are working together, farming the land with the family’s traditional, hands-on approach. The dryfarmed, head-trained vines that we source were planted in the 1980’s and are impressively resilient in limiting, rocky, alluvial soil. The fruit, maturing under the greatest diurnal temperature variation of all Californian AVAs, retains vibrant acidity while developing an intense berry profile distinguished by untamed spice notes of black pepper and licorice.
