The Wine Advocate, Lisa Perotti-Brown
"The 2016 Chardonnay Sangiacomo Vineyard has a nose of baked peaches, ripe pineapple and guava with hints of candied ginger, brioche and toasted almonds. Medium to full-bodied, it fills the mouth with tropical fruits and savory layers with a seducing creaminess to the texture and long, spicy finish."

The Sangiacomo Vineyard is a certified sustainable vineyard, first planted in 1969. The block we source from is entirely ‘Old Wente’ field selection. The proximity to the Pacific Ocean and San Pablo Bay makes this site ideal for growing Chardonnay. Older vines produce small clusters that drive concentration and richness in the wine.

Tasting Notes

This wine is vibrant gold in color with a slight green hue. It opens with aromatics of ripe Asian pear, toasted hazelnut, and mango. The palate is lush with beautiful structure from the barrel. Mango and crème fraiche on the palate lead into a long and focused finish with hints of crushed gravel.

Wine Facts

The 2016 harvest was early, with slightly lower than normal yield, but exceptional fruit quality. After many years of drought, we experienced winter rains that helped alleviate the dry conditions that plagued us for the last four years. The entire ripening season enjoyed cooler than average days and nights. July and August were particularly temperate allowing for longer hang times, which ripened the grapes uniformly.

Appellation Sonoma County
Barrel Aging 40% New French Oak (Francois Freres)
Vineyard Sangiacamo Vineyard
Varietal Composition 100% Chardonnay
