2014 HALL Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
"Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain reveals notes of freshly crushed black currants and blackberries with underlying kirsch, cigar box, dried mint, char-grilled meat and new leather hints. Very big, full-bodied and decadent in the mouth, it has velvety tannins and exotic spices accenting the black fruit preserves flavors, leading to a very long finish."
Intense and integrated aromas of black cherry and warm, spicy oak notes. The palate is dense and lush with concentrated flavors of dark berry coulis, cocoa powder, and freshly turned earth. A dynamic, lush finish with focused tannin and beautiful fruit/oak balance.
Perched 1400 feet above the valley floor, Howell Mountain is well above the fog line. This natural inversion layer assures the vineyards are drenched in sunlight from daybreak to sunset. Cooler spring temperatures cause buds to break later than average, and warm summer nights produce fruit of opulence and density. With rocky, infertile volcanic soils, the water is freely drained and the vines struggle and are low in vigor, producing intense wines from small clusters and berries.
|Varietal Composition||100% Cabernet Sauvignon|
|Barrel Aging||24 Months in 80% New French Oak|
|Vintage Notes||The drought conditions helped contribute to an unusually early harvest in 2014. Substantial rain in early spring provided the vines enough hydration to sustain an otherwise dry summer. The entire season was early, from budbreak, to veraison, to harvest. Summer weather was perfect for the grapes, with no extremes or surprises. Fruit quality was exceptional, intensely aromatic and showcased great fruit character.|
