2015 HALL Ellie's Cabernet Sauvignon
"Firm and tight, yet with a plump core of plum, blackberry, black cherry, cedar and anise flavors. A mouthful that's quite chewy now but a good bet to reward with time."

"Ellie's is beautiful and gets close to the elegance and purity of the top cuvees. Blackcurrants, cassis, spicy oak and licorice notes, as well as an impressive floral character, give way to a ripe, polished, beautifully concentrated Cabernet that's going to shine for two decades."
Initial aromas of mineral, dusty earth lead to a perfume of marion berry, grilled herbs and cardamom. The polished texture of the palate echoes the minerality on the nose with layers of fresh and supple tannins that lead to a graceful, vivid finish.
This wine is named for Craig Hall's mother, Eleanor “Ellie” Hall, who was an artist and a teacher. She inspired Craig’s love of art and it is her artwork that graces this wine’s label. Crafting this blend is an exercise in texture. Vineyard sources are selected for their elegance with tannins that are soft, lush, opulent and feminine in character. The palate is driven by minerality, cassis, and a floral perfume.
|Varietal Composition||97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot|
|Barrel Aging||22 Months in 60% New French Oak|
|Vintage Notes||An unseasonably warm spring brought early bloom and bud break. Temperatures cooled in May causing grape shatter, which resulted in uneven fruit set and reduced an already low crop yield. In reaction, vineyard crews worked even more diligently during verasion thinning to maintain even ripening of the clusters. As a result of the growing conditions, attention to detail in the vineyards, plus a final pass through optical sorting equipment at the winery makes the quality of the vintage extremely high.|
