2016 BACA Cat's Cradle Zinfandel
Rockpile is Zinfandel country,
Gap’s Crown Vineyard
Perched on a hillside in the direct path of steady winds from the Pacific Ocean.
A break in the coastal range at Bodega Bay that lets in fog and cool air
Sonoma Coast Appellation
Heavy fog and strong winds tempered by bright afternoon sunshine.
This very effusive Zinfandel displays warm aromas of paprika, blueberry compote, dark cherry, and dried mushrooms. Roasted stems bring a dense and focused quality to the mouthfeel. The palate is smooth with dark berry character, entwined with warm spicy barrel and hints of wet stone leading into a sweet lingering finish laced with baking spice.
|Varietal Composition||95% Zinfandel, 5% Petite Syrah|
|Barrel Aging||Aged 10 Months in 35% New French Oak|
|Vineyard||Rockpile, Sonoma County|
|Vintage Notes||Rustic flavors like brambly and stony aren’t found in your typical Zinfandel flavor spectrum. Then again, with its complex undertones of terra cotta, brambly fruit, violets, and black pepper, Cat's Cradle isn’t a typical Zinfandel. It’s a big wine, with a sensation of opulent extract on the mid-palate and well-built tannin carries through lengthy finish. Pop it open with friends and delight in the witty repartee.|
