2016 Kathryn Hall Cabernet Sauvignon 1.5L
Critic Review
"Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall sashays out of the glass with beguiling notions of warm black and red currants, fresh blackberries, black raspberries and boysenberries with touches of rose hip tea, forest floor, pencil shavings and violets. Full-bodied with a taut foundation of firm, fine-grained tannins and bags of freshness, it has layer upon layer of perfumed black and red fruits, finishing long and fragrant."
96 Points | Wine Spectator, James Molesworth
"A beauty, with creamed plum, braised fig and melted black licorice notes that are long and deep, gliding through effortlessly and ending with a swath of espresso, loam and smoldering tobacco details. Hard to resist now, but will cruise in the cellar."
The 2016 Kathryn Hall is deep ruby in color with enticing aromas of cassis, violets, cacao, anise and black tea. This powerful vintage sets the stage for a full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon with layered notes of dark plum, ripe blackberry, anise, pine needle and violet. The firm tannins are well integrated and provide a structured backbone to this opulent wine.

The Kathryn Hall Cabernet Sauvignon is the pinnacle of our blending efforts each year. The exalted Sacrashe vineyard takes center stage, and is the basis of this blend. The vineyard contributes the mouth-coating richness and complexity, offering deep, dark earthy cassis flavors and powerfully dense tannins. From there, we search out complementary vineyards, usually from the most regarded mountain appellations, to create balance, symmetry and finesse in the wine. Lastly, we introduce vineyards with profound depth and decadence to heighten the voluptuousness and opulence that have become a hallmark character of our flagship wine.

Vintage Notes | The 2016 vintage marked the end of the drought years, although precipitation levels were still moderate to low. Near-perfect growing conditions continued throughout the summer with a few heat spikes that the valley is known for. Yields were a bit lower than normal, but the quality of the harvest was high. The resulting wine is rich and lush, with supple tannins and opulent, elegant finishes. Wines from 2016 are a fifth consecutive vintage of stellar Napa Valley wines. |
