2016 WALT Sierra Mar Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir
“Medium ruby-purple colored, the 2016 Pinot Noir Sierra Mar Vineyard offers up red roses, chocolate covered cherries and menthol notes with hints of incense and black tea. Full-bodied, opulent and with quite a lot of power, it has a nice chewy backbone and great length.”
Central Coast AVA
Roughly 250 miles along the coastline of California from Santa Barbara County to San Francisco County
Translates to “mountain sea” in English, a fitting name for a site that represents the best of extreme mountain coastal terroir.
Site with decomposed granite and gravelly loam soils
Intense crimson in color, Sierra Mar has effusive aromas of bergamot, super ripe strawberry, and Chinese five-spice. The palate opens with flavors of spiced cherry coulis, followed by deep minerality, and spicy sage. A long intense finish is made with mouthwatering acidity and beautifully balanced oak.
Spiced Cherry Coulis
Sierra Mar vineyard is owned by Gary and Rosella Franscioni, famed pioneers of the Santa Lucia Highlands. This incredible vineyard site reflects the best of the appellation. The vineyard produces rich, lush, unctuous fruit that is balanced by the natural acidity of the site.

|Vintage Notes||The 2016 harvest was early, with slightly lower than normal yield, but exceptional fruit quality. After many years of drought, we experienced winter rains that helped alleviate the dry conditions that plagued us the prior four years. The entire ripening season enjoyed cooler than average days and nights. July and August were particularly temperate allowing for longer hang times, which ripened the grapes uniformly.|
