Mendocino – Pacini Vineyard
Planted over 100 years ago, Pacini vineyard is perched on the wild slopes of Mayacamas Mountain Range majestically overlooking Ukiah to the west. A true heritage vineyard, 2018 marks the year that the great-grandson bought the vineyard back into the family. With great care and vision the site is being rehabilitated in concert with the natural habitat by employing true dry-farming, sustainable practices, and sheep as natural (and very cute) mowers. The wine made from these centenarian vines presents a powerful yet elegant side of Zinfandel. May they continue to be fruitful for another century to come!

The 2018 BACA Somersault is everything we love about Old Vine Zinfandel. It is powerful, yet elegant. The wine leads with delicate, floral aromas of white pepper and rose hips. Pure, vibrant fruit flavors of blackberry and raspberry coulis follow. The finish is energetic with the signature minerality of these 100-year old vines. Fresh, round and polished, this is a serious wine with structure. It is luxurious now, and will age beautifully.

Vintage Notes | Following a series of warm, early harvests this years’ growing season went back to a slower rhythm. The change in tempo allowed an abundant crop of grapes to ripen gradually and develop deep flavors. With a later harvest there also comes an increased risk of October rains. Our growers spent much of the summer and fall manicuring the vine canopies to provide the grapes enough shade from the sun while also being prepared with adequate airflow to deter rot. When mother nature did throw a couple of unpredictable systems at us, I'm pleased to report that we weathered the storms and harvested exceptional fruit! |
