2018 WALT Clos Pepe Pinot Noir
"You have to love the salty character on the nose with its bright red fruits and shades of blood orange rind. The palate is fresh and vibrant with great acidity and length. The mouth-watering acidity entices as does the sour red fruits that dance with minerals and forest floor tones. Complete and gorgeous to enjoy in its youth, this great new wine will cellar well for the next decade or more."
92 Points | Wine Spectator, Kim Marcus
"There's rich loaminess to the raspberry and dark cherry flavors in this red, flanked by forest floor notes. Ends with slate and cooking spices on the structured finish."

Sandy Loam Soils
Cause vines to produce grapes with powerful varietal
Deep garnet in color, the 2018 Clos Pepe Pinot Noir features intense fruit aromas of black cherry and ripe pomegranate are infused with toasty oak. The palate opens to a beautifully rich and lush texture laced with hints of salinity - a distinguishing characteristic of the site. The minerality and warm, spicy character of the vineyard is brought forward by fermentation in concrete tank and whole cluster fermentation.
Clos Pepe is a very special vineyard site located in the heart of Sta. Rta. Hills within and east west corridor that provides a strong maritime influence. Cooler growing temperatures allow for extended hang time. Limiting sandy soils provide small vines with intense clusters. A mixture of Dijon clones and Pommard clone sourced throughout the vineyard help bring balance and nuance to the finished blend.

|Vintage Notes||Following a series of warm, early harvests, this year’s growing season returned to a slower rhythm, allowing grapes to ripen gently with deep flavors. Our growers spent the summer and fall manicuring the vine canopies to provide the grapes enough shade from the sun while also preparing adequate airflow to deter mold. When Mother Nature did throw a couple of unpredictable systems at us, we were able to weather the storms and harvest exceptional fruit!|
