Wine Enthusiast, Jim Gordon
"Dark plum and black-cherry flavors show great richness and breadth in this mouth-filling, slightly tannic wine as it delivers more plums and blackberries with each sip. It tastes rich and feels nicely structured."

"The 2019 Zinfandel Home Base has poppy fruit punch aromatics, with white pepper and cedar. In line with the nose, there is sweet mixed-berry fruit up front, with mocha and peach puree. It is prime for drinking now or over the next several years."

Dry Creek AVA – Rudy's Vineyard & Mauritson Home Ranch
Home Base starts with fruit farmed by the pioneering Mauritson family. This Zinfandel was made from two vineyards on the eastern side of the valley with vine ages ranging from 40-70 years old. One of the oldest wine regions in California, Dry Creek Valley has been renowned for its Zinfandel since the 1880’s. Distinctive from most other growing regions in Sonoma county, the valley warms earlier in the day and reaches higher average temperatures, yet still drops dramatically in temperature at night. These conditions make for deliciously rich and weighty wine.

Vintage Notes | The 2019 vintage began with a wet spring bringing three inches of rain in May. In response to the late rains our vineyards received diligent attention to control vigorous vine growth. A long Indian summer followed with mild weather, allowing the fruit to ripen at slow, even place. The long picking windows bore fruit with beautiful freshness at optimal ripeness. The resulting wines are exceptionally elegant. |
