2020 WALT Blue Jay Pinot Noir
Anderson Valley Pinot Noir
Focused and elegant with luscious cherry fruit and
Southern exposure, cobbled clay loam soils and
Due to its proximity to cool, steady winds from
the Pacific Ocean
This wine opens with beautiful, lifted aromas of dark berries, ripe fig, paprika and freshly turned earth. The palate is fresh and focused, with a vibrancy that enhances the structure and spice. Integrated flavors of dark fruits, clove, black pepper lead to a powerful and fruit-driven finish.
Freshly Turned Earth
Our 2021 Blue Jay is sourced from a unique set of vineyards from 'The Corner' of Anderson Valley - located in the hills to the East of Boonville. Both of our estate properties have steep hillsides, aspect, and light gravelly soils that combine to create optimal ripening conditions. These very rugged vineyard sites continuously produce fruit of great depth and character.
|Varietal Composition||100% Pinot Noir|
|Barrel Aging||14 months in 35% New French Oak (François Frères)|
|Vintage Notes||The season started out with an unseasonably warm, dry winter. It wasn't until the end of March that cold, rainy weather arrived, and the mild spring gave the vines a strong, early start. Even with above normal temperatures throughout the summer and fall, we still experienced the marine influence that defines the limiting conditions of our premium Pinot Noir sites - cool morning fog and afternoon wind. This vintage produced great wines that are fresh, focused, and beautifully balanced.|
