2022 BACA Stargazing White Wine
Critic Review
"This wine is fresh, with aromas of citrus blossom, Golden Delicious apple, green papaya and lemongrass on the nose. The flavors on the palate are Meyer lemon, quince and white grapefruit transmuting into mineral, orange zest, dried herbs and a long finish. Pair with grilled calamari steaks."
We fell in love with this Marsanne and Roussanne blend for its understated fruit, naturally lower alcohol, and full-bodied weight. Delicate aromas of candle wax and chamomile are layered over just-ripe stone fruits. The palate delivers a refreshingly crunchy texture with a hint of salinity to the finish.
Mendocino County AVA – Spirit Canyon Vineyard
Tracing the curving banks of the Russian River headwaters, Spirit Canyon is a small vineyard in Mendocino. Oak-dotted hillsides lie to one side while black walnut trees and native sedges line the river’s edge. This ecosystem provides a natural habitat for the yeasts that natively ferment our Stargazing blend. The vineyard is farmed using organic practices and utilizes sheep in the place of agricultural mowing equipment. The Rhone grapes cultivated here are of Mediterranean origin and are perfectly suited to the warm Mendocino climate. The resulting fruit achieves phenological ripeness at low brix allowing us to make this elegant and austere wine.

Vintage Notes | Ample winter rain, followed by temperate and dry conditions through March gave us a good start to the vintage. The spring and summer months were consistent and warm, resulting in small but healthy canopies and balanced vines. Labor Day came with a curveball from Mother Nature in the form of a prolonged heat wave that accelerated harvest at many of our vineyard sites, followed immediately by much cooler weather and a bit of rain. This refreshing slow-down allowed the remaining grapes to hang a bit longer, yielding beautifully balanced fruit Overall, the 2022 vintage is fresh with pure, concentrated flavors. |
