2016 HALL Eighteen Seventy-Three Cabernet Sauvignon
Critic Review
"...instantly begins to impress as it shows off an inky color and offers aromas of ripe dark currants, red bell pepper that mingle with milk chocolate and tar on this expressive nose. Soft and plush on the palate, the wine delivers seductive flavors of black tea, Asian spices, mocha and sweet pipe tobacco that all continue through the finish where it displays wonderful length. Outstanding in its youth, this beautiful wine will cellar well for fifteen years or more."
92 Points | Wine Enthusiast, Virginie Boone
"Full bodied, with powerful oak and tannin, this is an opulently earthy, fleshy wine with an entry of dried herb, pencil and cedar. The fruit is black and brooding, appropriately matched by sweet tobacco and lasting intensity."
Deep ruby in the glass, Eighteen Seventy-Three has hallmark Napa Cabernet aromas of graphite, cassis, cracked black pepper, sweet oak and vanilla. On the palate, pronounced flavors of ripe dark fruit, dark chocolate, crushed raspberry, baking spice and vanilla is supported by firm, structured tannins and bright acidity leading into a length finish.

IN 1873, CAPTAIN WILLIAM PETERSON came to Napa and established a pioneering winery on our St. Helena property. Throughout the 1930’s and 40’s, the site grew to become Napa’s most important winery, producing nearly 40% of its entire vintage. The fruit for our “Eighteen Seventy-Three” hails from the rugged mountain slopes that frame Napa Valley. Power and individuality underscore this wine, a deliberate intent to commemorate the trailblazing spirit of Napa’s first vintners.

Vintage Notes | The 2016 vintage marked the end of the drought years, although precipitation levels were still moderate to low. Near-perfect growing conditions continued throughout the summer with a few heat spikes that the valley is known for. Yields were a bit lower than normal, but the quality of the harvest was high. The resulting wines are rich and lush, with supple tannins and opulent, elegant finishes. Wines from 2016 are a fifth consecutive vintage of stellar Napa Valley wines. |
