2018 HALL Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon
Critic Review
"Nicely packed, with a mix of plum, boysenberry and mulberry compote flavors holding center stage, while licorice root, sweet bay leaf and violet accents swirl around the edges. The finish is carried by racy structure, underscored by a note of iron. Should blossom in the cellar."

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder is one of the most distinctive wines in the range. Iron, game, grilled herbs, leather, cedar, tobacco and cedar lend striking aromatic nuance and complexity. There's plenty of Veeder tannin and acid, but also the fruit to balance things out."
Deep garnet color, this wine features layered aromas of freshly cracked black pepper, black tea, blackberry compote, and lavender. On the palate are rich, dense and focused tannins cascading with flavors of dark berries, cardamom, tobacco and wet stone. A long and flavorful finish is supported by finely textured, yet powerful tannin, with just a hint of vinous flavor at the very end.

Created by uplift from seismic activity and movement of tectonic plates some 12 million years ago, Mount Veeder is derived from ancient sea beds. These sedimentary soils are infused with the decayed remnants of the forests native to the area, which leads to a distinctively dark berry and exotic, wild mountain character. Because of the rugged, steep terrain of this mountain appellation, the yields are inherently miniscule, with tiny berries bursting with concentrated and densely tannic structures.

Vintage Notes | This near perfect growing season began in late February. Our Spring weather was mild, and allowed for extended flowering that produced very uniform grape clusters. Temperatures throughout Napa remained steady and warm during the majority of summer and fall, without any heat spikes, making for a long and unhurried harvest. The resulting wines are incredibly smooth and polished, with magnificent texture and color. |
