2019 HALL Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon
Critic Review
"...flat-out gorgeous in every way, offering a complex array of ripe plums, currants, thyme, rosemary, and iron-like aromas and flavors. With medium to full-bodied richness, a deep, layered mid-palate, and building tannins, it has some accessibility today (as do most 2019s) but will ideally be given 4-5 years of bottle age. It’s going to keep for at least two decades in cold cellars."

"... a floral but dark-fruited Cab loaded with cassis and plum, accented by cedar and vanilla. Full-bodied and supple, it finishes long and velvety, with hints of dark chocolate and a bit of alcoholic warmth."
Our 2019 Mt. Veeder opens with classic aromas of black pepper, dried herbs and lavender, black fruits and fresh earth. Dense and focused on the palate with intense flavors that resonate - dark chocolate and hints of crushed gravel are accompanied by notes of fresh blackberry. The finish is vibrant and full of intensity, a powerful and well-crafted vintage of Mt. Veeder with that will age for decades.

Created by uplift from seismic activity and movement of tectonic plates some 12 million years ago, Mount Veeder is derived from ancient sea beds. These sedimentary soils are infused with the decayed remnants of the forests native to the area, which leads to a distinctively dark berry and exotic, wild mountain character. Because of the rugged, steep terrain of this mountain appellation, the yields are inherently miniscule, with tiny berries bursting with concentrated and densely tannic structures.

Vintage Notes | Our 2019 growing began with ample rainfall and lingering soil moisture. A warm, extended summer saw very few extreme heat events, with foggy mornings setting the stage for vibrant and expressive wines. The long, relatively mild finish to the season helped to preserve freshness and balance in the fruit with hang time that allowed for impressive color, structure and tannin. This is an exceptional vintage defined by well integrated acidity, dense texture, and great depth. |
